HAKUBA IWATAKE MTB PARK GUIDE

  • HAKUBA IWATAKE, MTB Mecca in Peaceful Forest

    In 1990s, there were 2 big moutain biking races held in Hakuba Iwatake, "Haru Iwa" and "Aki Iwa". They were known as the biggest MTB events in Japan at that time and over 1,000 mountain bikers participated, even including top riders not only from Japan, but also from overseas. Besides, a lot of MTB brands advanced improvement and development of their products toward these competitions. The best thing about Hakuba Iwatake was 3,672-meter long Downhill Course which had the elevation gap of 521 meters from the summit (1,272m). Besides, there were also Dual Slalom and Cross Country courses. Although the MTB courses were suddenly closed in the late 90s, Hakuba Iwatake, a long-awaited MTB mecca, has come back again!!

    Recently,mountain biking has been getting more and more popular. Hakuba Iwatake has various courses for MTB, such as Downhill Course from the summit area and Cross Country Course which invites you a cruise in a refreshing forest.

    BEGINNERS DOWNHILL COURSE

    Course Name: Alps Downhill Course
    Level: Beginner
    Elevation Gap: 521m　Length: 6,900m

    The first course which meets the international standards in Japan. Even beginners can enjoy this long downhill course. You will find the great view from Iwatake (1,272m) and very thrilling experiences!

    DOWNHILL COURSE

    Course Name: Kamikaze Downhill Course
    Level: Over Intermediate
    Elevation Gap: 521m　Length: 3,672m

    Exciting downhill course where you can run down the Iwatake which has an elevation of 1,272m in one go. After the single track through a forest, you will go down the various trail, sometimes dirty, sometimes scree. In the straight part, pedal your MTB toward the top speed!!

    CROSS COUNTRY COURSE
    Anri Hirabayashi, a professional cross country rider born in Hakuba, produces!

    Course Name: Iwatake Forest Course
    Level: Beginner - Expert
    Length: 4,100m

    Cross country course which takes you into adventure in Iwatake Forest. The trails are rich in variations with standard single tracks, ups and downs. You can take a rest beside the course and walk around the forest, relaxing in the refreshing air.

    IWATAKE SKILL UP AREA

    Course Name: Fun Ride Course
    Level: Beginner - Expert
    Elevation Gap: 30m　Length: 700m

    Open after renovation of Mini Cross Course. All-in-one course which has up-down trails in forest which anyone from beginners to experts can enjoy.

    Course Name: Dual Pump Track
    Level: Beginner - Expert
    Length: 70m　2 Pump Tracks

    Real dirt course for from adults to children and from kid's kick bike without pedals to BMX and MTB.

    RENTAL

    At Hakuba Iwatake, children from 8 to 12 years old can also enjoy mountain biking. Besides, there is rental of MTB and helmets for the visitors who do not participate in the guided tour. Participants in the tour can rent helmets and protectors as well.

    *By Hokuriku Shinkansen, it takes about 80 minutes at the minimum from Tokyo. From Nagano Station, it takes about 1 hour to Hakuba by bus.

    To Matsumoto Airport
    Osaka (Itami)　→　Approx. 55 min. (Only during Aug. 1－Aug. 31)
    Sapporo　→　Approx. 1.5 Hours
    Fukuoka　→　Approx. 1.5 Hours

    *It takes about 1.5 hours from Matsumoto to Hakuba by car. There are shuttle bus service and rental cars at the airport.
